Scope of duties

Our client is an independent international humanitarian organization present in over 80 countries around the World. Due to the opening of a new office in Poland we are looking for interested person for the position:

Strategist Communication and Engagement Lead

As the office is at start-up phase, and will have limited resources and positions, all staff will need to perform tasks beyond the specific job descriptions to ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the newly established office. The team consists of strategists and senior specialist. Strategist are focus on developing strategy, while specialists are focus on implementation.
Main tasks:
  • Lead on development of integrative and holistic engagement and communication strategy and annual plan to bear witness and speak out about the humanitarian crises, to establish and preserve brand imagine and identity and to engage humanitarian aid workers, supporters and multipliers
  • Definition of long- and short-term engagement and communication goals, activities and key performance indicators and responsible
  • Take overall responsibility for the planning and evaluation of the full range of communication and engagement channels and activities in Poland: print publications, website and social media, community management, events, media work, etc.
  • Ensure all publications, communication and engagement activities are in line with Organisation policies, regulations, and processes
  • Responsible for corporate design and corporate identity
  • Plan and monitor the overall engagement and communication budget & expenditure to ensure cost efficiency, effectiveness, and a responsible handling of finances
  • Responsible for reporting on key performance indicators 
  • Build-up of the media and public relations work, establish and maintain contacts with relevant journalists in Poland and Polish correspondents abroad and set-up
  • Be responsible for media evaluation and analysis of media coverage
  • If needed, advise, and support the Polish office movement on how to handle sensitive issues and/or crisis in Polish media
  • Develop and start implementation of a strategy for events targeting donors, humanitarian aid workers and the public
  • Work closely with the General Director and contribute to the Poland Branch Office overall strategy
  • In the absence of the General Director manage overall daily function of branch office
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant professional experience
  • Proven management experience in communication, PR or journalism at a strategic level with proven results in planning and management
  • Previous experience of leading campaigns and communications which target different audiences through a range of media channels 
  • Polish and English: C1
  • Proven knowledge of Polish NGO sector, relevant stakeholders, communication, and engagement practices within the sector
  • Excellent knowledge of the Polish media landscape 
  • Experience from all types of media work: from strategies to press releases 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong commitment to humanitarian principles and values   
  • Preferable experience from crisis communication and communication in sensitive contexts 
  • Preferable experience in community management
  • Preferably advocacy experience
  • Ability to deal with complex situations and react quickly to maximise communication and engagement potential in major emergencies  
  • Experience in leading processes and activities, strategic vision and start-up mind-set 
  • Team player and networker
  • Relevant education background reflected in regular masters’ studies/postgraduates’ studies/deep learning programmes or adequate education 
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other offices
